Inspired by Autumn’s First Frost

“Kanro” (寒露), meaning “Cold Dew,” is the 17th solar term in Japan’s 24 Sekki calendar. It marks the arrival of crisp autumn mornings and the first frost on grass. This release captures that seasonal shift with remarkable precision. In fact, every bottle in the 24 Sekki series reflects a poetic moment in nature—and Kanro embodies clarity, coolness, and quiet intensity.

Distilled on Hokkaido’s Wild Eastern Shore

Akkeshi Distillery, Japan’s easternmost whisky maker, crafts this expression using 100% in-house peated malt. The team matures the spirit in a complex mix of casks—ex-Bourbon, Sherry, and rare Mizunara oak. As a result, the whisky develops deep layers of fruit, smoke, and spice. Additionally, the sea-swept climate imparts a subtle saline minerality that defines its terroir.

A Bold and Complex Tasting Journey

First, the nose opens with stewed plum, dried figs, and dark chocolate. Then, waves of peat smoke, leather, and sandalwood emerge.

On the palate, rich flavors of black cherry, clove, and black pepper unfold. A robust 55% ABV delivers warmth without overpowering—thanks to careful cask selection and blending.

Finally, the finish is long and evolving: smoky, spicy, and slightly briny, with echoes of incense and roasted nuts. Altogether, it’s a powerful yet refined experience that rewards slow sipping.
