Description
Ichiro’s Malt Yokohama Takashimaya Imperial Stout Cask Finish Japanese Single Malt Whisky
700ml | 58.7% ABV | Non-Chill Filtered | Natural Color | Department Store Exclusive
A Triumphant Japanese Collaboration
The Ichiro’s Malt Imperial Stout Cask Finish is the result of a rare three-way partnership: whisky legend Ichiro Akuto, iconic retailer Takashimaya, and Yokohama Brewery. Consequently, it unites Japan’s finest single malt with one of its most celebrated craft stouts. Moreover, this release celebrates local craftsmanship—from Saitama to Yokohama.
Finished in Fresh Imperial Stout Casks
After maturing in ex-Bourbon barrels, the spirit was transferred into freshly emptied casks that once held Yokohama Imperial Stout—a bold, roasty beer with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, and caramel. In fact, the Ichiro’s Malt Imperial Stout absorbs these rich beer characteristics while retaining Chichibu’s signature vibrancy and spice.
Deep, Complex, and Uniquely Japanese
Bottled at 58.7% ABV, this whisky balances intensity with elegance. As a result, the stout influence adds depth without overwhelming the malt. Additionally, Chichibu’s direct-fire distillation provides a subtle mineral edge that ties the beer and whisky elements together seamlessly.
Tasting Experience
First, the nose opens with espresso, dark chocolate, and molasses, layered with vanilla, roasted nuts, and a hint of peat smoke. Then, dried cherry and leather emerge with air.
On the palate, the texture is rich and velvety. Flavors of black coffee, burnt caramel, clove, and dark fruit unfold with precision. The alcohol integrates beautifully, adding warmth and structure.
Finally, the finish is long and satisfying—bitter cocoa, oak spice, and a whisper of hoppy bitterness from the stout cask. Altogether, it’s a groundbreaking fusion that honors both brewing and distilling traditions.
A Highly Sought-After Exclusive
Originally sold only at Takashimaya Yokohama in 2022, this bottling was extremely limited. Therefore, it’s now a collector’s treasure with strong secondary market demand. Each bottle features custom co-branded labeling, making the Ichiro’s Malt Imperial Stout a true artifact of Japanese craft collaboration.
